conversions of quantities and units

i know this should probably be simple... but i am not getting the answer the book has and i can't figure out how to accomplish this.....

in france, grapes are 1.40 euros per kg. what is the cost of grapes in dollars per lb, if the exchange rate is 1.30 dollars per euro?

this next one is killing me to:
1 box of crackers = serving size 0.50 oz (6 crackers)
fat 4 gr per serving

if you ate 10 crackers, how many ounces of fat are you consuming...
i converted 6 crackers to = 1.5 g fat per cracker
i multiplied 10 crackers by 1.5 to = 15 g of fat
15 g fat x 1 lb/454 g = .033 lb x 16 oz/1 lb = 0.528 oz

book answer says 0.2 oz....?

hi randi ,

I checked out your myspace site. Really cool what you do

ok so

you need to convert euros to dollars and kg to pounds

you have identified a relationship between euro and dollar

1.30 dollars = 1 euro  now you need  a relationship between 1 kg = ? lbs

then from these relationships you can set up conversion factors (aka unit cancellation thingies)

first you will manipulate the numerator then the denominator

1.40 euro/kg x (1.30 dollars/euro) =  xxxx dollars/ kg

don't have time to calc right now

now use the other relationship to manipulate the denominator

Crackers

1st step find equivalencies
    1 serving = 6 crackers
    fat 4 gr =  1 serving
    1 lb = 454 g
    16 oz = 1 lb
2nd step turn equivalencies into conversion factors (fractions) 2 per statement
    1 serving/6 crackers ; 6 crackers/1 serving
    4 g fat/1 serving ; 1 serving/4 g fat
    1 lb/454 g ; 454 g/1 lb
    16 oz = 1 lb ; 1lb = 16 oz
3rd step ALWAYS start with the given
    10 crackers
4th step choose conversion factor so units cancel (top of given and bottom of factor)

set-up problem
10 crackers x 1 serving 4 g fat  1 lb    x  16 oz  =
                  6 crackers  1 serving  464 g      1 lb

cancel units
10 crackers x 1 serving 4 g fat  1 lb    x  16 oz  =
                  6 crackers  1 serving  464 g      1 lb

evaluate with answer in 0.2 oz fat with correct significant figures
